Welcome imageWelcome imageWelcome image
My name is Jan, I am a Qualified, Professional Licensed Dog Breeder with over 25 years breeding experience and I am also a Licensed Microchip Implanter.

In June 2022 I became one of the very first Qualified Dog Breeders in the UK studying on the VERY FIRST and ONLY accredited, Ofqual regulated, Level 3 Certificate in Dog Breeding, Litter Socialisation & Welfare. This is a ground-breaking, first ever nationally accredited dog breeding course that has been championed by animal welfare professionals as a step towards creating a world where dog breeding is undertaken in an educated, professional and ethical way.

My Priority is Health & Temperament for the Perfect Family Pet.

All of my pups are conceived, whelped & reared within my home, without exception, and with 24/7 care and full veterinary support.

I "keep" Miniature Schnauzers, Toy Poodles, Biewer Terriers & Chihuahuas.
I "breed" for true Miniature Schnauzers (typical UK colours plus the highly delectable Liver Brown colour) as well as Toy Schnoodles, Biewdles, Boozers & tiny Biechi pups.

I breed Toy Breed Dogs which are considered to be Hypoallergenic, this is my speciality. I know through my own personal fight with animal allergies, that a dog's coat must be right for me before I can contemplate having the breed in my house and my life. An allergy sufferer is restricted to the number of breeds of dog that can be considered as there are not really that many breeds available which do not produce allergy symptoms to the inflicted. The true breeds that I keep are relatively good for me, my allergies are not at all affected by my Biewer Terriers or my Toy Poodles, and I can live with my Min Schnauzers as the majority of them have a softer coat (from my USA imported lines) than my UK breed lines who have a more harsh, wirey type coat which can affect me when I am grooming them. By picking out the best of each breed, in terms of genetics, health, robustness and resilience, and of course the best personalities and temperaments, then combining them responsibly for pups with a high % of hybrid vigour, it means that I can produce a choice of breeds for allergy sufferers, aswell as a dog that is healthy, full of life, happy and friendly and goes on to become an absolutely perfect companion.

Updated 23rd July 2024 All my pups are Fully Vaccinated, Vet Checked Twice, Microchipped & Insured before leaving me. I provide a Purchase Receipt, Puppy Sales Contract, Personalised Diet Sheet, Worming & Flea Protection Records and follow on worming/flea protection products.... PLUS Comprehensive Puppy Pack, advice and support. SedgysMiniMe Breeding License 001673 "With All My Heart" (Dumfries & Galloway)

About Me image
My name is Jan
I am a Fully Qualified, Licensed, Registered Breeder of Miniature Schnauzers, Toy Schnoodles, Boozers, Biewdles & tiny BieChi. I am Located in Dumfries & Galloway, South West Scotland, in the United Kingdom

Name: Janet Gilson
My KC Affix: SedgysMiniMe
My Breeding Establishment License ref: is 001673
Local Authority: Dumfries & Galloway Council

Although breeding for 20+ years and having been a Licensed Dog Breeder for the past 13 years, in June 2022 I also became one of the very first Qualified Dog Breeders in the UK, which I am very proud of. I studied for the VERY FIRST and ONLY accredited , Ofqual regulated, Level 3 qualification in the UK, in Dog Breeding, Litter socialisation and Welfare, which I passed with flying colours.

I have kept dogs for 30 years. During which time we (myself and my partner) have owned a variety of breeds (Doberman, Bedlington Terrier, Chihuahuas, Chinese Crested, Biewer Terriers, Petit Brabancon, Toy Poodles & Miniature Schnauzers (or they have owned us, whichever way you look at it). The Chihuahuas were the first dog that we started to breed many years ago. My first Chihuahua joined my family and took over our lives when we initially purchased Roxi-Pocket, a little teeny ball of fluff no bigger than my Doberman's paw. I had wanted a Chihuahua from a VERY young age, and I am talking early 1970's (long before the Paris Hiltons' and Cheryl Tweedys' of the world brought the breed into the media spotlight). I love everything about the breed, they have such big personalities for little dogs and they all have individual characters and personalities. Chihuahuas all are so different too in terms of looks, sizes, coats, colours, unlike many a dog breed, each Chihuahua truly is an individual in more ways than one. I could not imagine not sharing my life with my dogs, I am honestly devoted, nuts, loopy over them and my life revolves around them. Without my dogs my world would be an extremely sad and empty place to be.

I would, personally, have had dogs in my life since birth but my mother hates dogs with a passion, and so we were never allowed a family dog as children growing up. That is probably why I now surround myself with dogs, perhaps it is a rebellious streak in me ? perhaps it is because I don't have children ? but whatever the reason, I wouldn't want my life any other way. We don't take holidays, we never leave the house together, to ensure that there is always either myself or my partner at home for the dogs, and I would never ever contemplate leaving them under another persons' responsibility and care for the sake of a week or two away, anyway, I would miss them and worry about them too much. They are more to me than just dogs. I look on them as my babies.
Where my mother hates dog with a passion, I love them with a passion. We truly are complete opposites. But I would not change my views for the world, I truly believe that my mother is missing out on something special in her life big time, not having a dog, and not even wanting anything to do with dogs. But I find them such loyal companions, and they are always there to offer a paw or a cuddle, to stroke them is so therapeutic and they offer pure unconditional love (and they don't answer back! although I have to say some of my little divas do have the occasional paddy if they want something Right Now!) Yes, I do have 2 Chihuahuas in particular that will literally stamp their little front paws if they are not getting their own way. I can watch them playing together for hours, running around the house being daft. The way they dart around the garden reminds me of spring lambs, or when they go to the door on a wet and windy day and look at me as if to say "If you think I am going out in that you have another thing coming!", those that do brave the cold wet ground do so with intrepidation and tippy toes, like proper little snobs! I just love it when they snuggle up under my jumper and stay their all warm and curled up for hours (unless I have to move, which is more often than not, I don;t get a lot of time to relax and snuggle with all the dogs to look after), they are like little hot water bottles. Or when they burrow under their beds and peek out with their little eyes and noses at the world. Oh yes, and the way they sit quietly pretending that butter wouldn't melt, as good as gold as they watch you eat, knowing that any tidbits will only go to them if they are good, or the way they please themselves by hiding little treasures or treats with their noses, or throw toys off the couch so that they can retrieve them back and throw them off again. And a Chihuahua will shiver and shake just because they can, just because they are a Chihuahua. I can go on forever about their little habits and quirks, but just everything about them I find soothing, comforting, cute, funny and adorable. They really are the love of my life (after my partner of course!) and it isn't very often that they don't get their own way.

Starting to breed chihuahuas originally was not something that we ventured into lightly. Breeding can be heartbreaking as well as a joyful time, and due to the size of the breed, and the fact that this alone can bring breeding difficulties, and the fact that Chihuahuas can carry so many mixed up genes from imported breeders etc.. it is never something that should be done without a lot of thought and knowledge and research and experience. It really was a big decision to make. But we were both experienced with breeding other pets and animals long before we decided to breed my Chihuahuas, and undertook a lot of research prior to starting out. We also have an excellent relationship with our vet so if anything does go wrong, we know that we have medical backup along the way.

We took our passion one step further to become an officially Licensed Breeding Establishment. I am registered with the British Kennel Club and my Affix is SedgysMiniMe. Sedgey (or CJ for short) was the name of our very first family pet dog. She was a Doberman and was with us from a puppy to the age of ten, when we sadly lost her to cancer. Losing CJ broke our hearts, as anybody who has ever lost a beloved family pet will know how that feels. Thank goodness that we had our Chihuahuas to keep us going and see us through the difficult period in our lives.

I am a breeder that cares deeply about where my pups may be going to live in the future, therefore I do ask quite a few questions, I apologise if you are not comfortable about this, I promise that I have only the interest of my pups' future in mind, and I want to be as sure as I possibly can be, that my pups are placed in the most suitable homes, and will be living in a loving, safe, happy and permanent environment, and that the potential new owners have really thought long and hard about the purchase of a new pup.

We looked long and hard to find someone we could trust to breed ethically and responsibly and we are so glad we found Jan. You will not find a more dedicated breeder anywhere - Jan pours her heart and soul into her puppies and it shows. Our little Angus is as perfect as a pup can be, and the huge amount of support, advice and encouragement that Jan provided during our journey to getting him was invaluable and made the whole process of settling him into our home as smooth as possible. Everywhere we go Angus is met with compliments and he loves everyone, especially kids. His wee bright eyes and wiggly tail are absolutely irresistible- he just bursts with joy and enthusiasm because he had the absolute best start and treats life as one big adventure. Thank you Jan, for trusting us with one of your amazing pups.

We picked up Baxter (Brewster) in January 2023. It is the best decision we have ever made. This wee guy is the most loving and cuddly dog I have ever met. He is always at my side and I would not be without him. Jan has done an amazing job breeding such happy little family members.

I picked up Bonnie, my little Biechi puppy last winter. She was my first ever puppy and first ever experience of owning a dog, although I had always wanted one. I can’t begin to even say what an absolute delight she is. Apart from being just the cutest little fluff baby, she is quiet, sweet, friendly, happy, she loves everyone and is forever getting compliments on her temperament and cuteness. She was toilet trained within a couple of months (she needs um extra encouragement in bad weather although I don’t imagine I’d enjoy an outside loo in the rain either…) she has a cute habit of relieving herself under the bench in the garden (it’s a bit like a bus shelter for her) when it’s raining - pretty clever I say. She loves her doggy friends, adores her humans and has kisses for everyone. I can’t imagine life without her and I’m so glad I trusted Jan - I hadn’t actually met Bonnie in person before I picked her up as we live a few hours away. Jan provided pictures, information, a brilliantly detailed medical history - which my vet was impressed by and I am so grateful she let me have one of her little pups. Bonnie took to the journey home really well - no complaints or accidents and it was just over 5 hours. She had a waggy tail within minutes of arriving home and settled on my legs within an hour. Her recall is perfect, she’s gentle with children… just a dream. We love her so much.

Check out Bonnie as a pup

I purchased a puppy off Jan. He is absolutely adorable. Jan is a absolutely wonderful lady. Jan goes above and beyond to take all the worries and stress away once you get your puppy home. Jan had done everything for us. She even provides a lovely puppy pack with all your information you need. She even has treats and toys and a months supply of food. This is just amazing because all we have had to do is focus on our puppy who is such a little character. He is so relaxed loving and is just a fluffy bundle of joy. This is all down to Jan who is so professional in every way. To buy a puppy off such a lovely thoughtful lady like Jan is a dream. We are now considering getting a second puppy and I won’t hesitate to go with Jan again. She is amazing and top class.

This is Ziggy (was Whisky) our beautiful Boozer (Biewer x mini Schnauzer) he is such a friendly, gentle, happy and healthy little boy. He really is the loveliest dog we have ever had and we can't imagine life without him. We can't thank Jan enough for caring for him and giving him the best start in life. Ziggy is about to turn one soon and we are already thinking about getting a little friend for him from Jan. We wouldn't go anywhere else!

I got Ruby from Jan in October 2021 and she has been the most fantastic pup. She turned 1 on the 7th July,2022. Ruby is my 7th schnauzer and she is the most sociable, loving, mischievous young lady we have ever had. When we got her at 13 weeks she settled almost immediately. She was spayed back in May and the vet commented on what a well behaved schnauzer she was and how stunned she was that she didn’t bark🤣
